One of New York’s top restaurateurs is preparing to take the DMV by storm. Marcus Samuelsson and his renowned restaurant group will be making a DC return with Marcus DC later this year, reports Eater DC.

Samuelsson will be opening his namesake restaurant in the Morrow Hotel. Marcus DC will be taking over the space at 222 M Street NE that previously housed Le Clou. A precise opening date is not currently available, however DC foodies can look forward to sampling the chef’s seafood-forward menu at some point this spring.

Samuelsson brings an interesting cultural blend to the melting pot that is the DC dining scene. The Ethiopia native was raised in Sweden and wowed the New York restaurant world. Marcus DC will allow him to spread his unique influence to the capital city, a prospect that delights the celebrated chef. He states: ““I’ve loved the DMV region for many years and have wanted to open in D.C. proper for some time.”

Samuelsson is not a total unknown to the DMV restaurant scene. He previously launched an eatery in the MGM National Harbor. The establishment, opened in 2016, had a relatively brief tenure in DC, but has not diminished any of Samuelsson’s enthusiasm for the District.

Marcus DC will focus heavily on seafood, served in a variety of fashions, including raw for the more adventurous eaters.

Though only 53 years old, Samuelsson has earned incredible acclaim. The James Beard Foundation named him the Best Chef in New York City in 2003, among myriad other accolades across a variety of sources.
