A father-and-son duo is bringing Bethesda locals a scoop they can truly feel good about. Max’s Best Ice Cream, a sweet shop with an even sweeter purpose, is opening in the DMV later this year, reports local media outlet Bethesda Today.

The ice cream parlor will be serving customers at 7770 Woodmont Avenue, in the space that formerly housed The Blue House. The shop, owned and operated by Max and Cory Alexander, will provide decadent ice cream treats while offering job opportunities to folks with developmental and cognitive disabilities. Max’s Best will be working with a non-profit called Best Buddies International to staff the storefront.

Speaking of the partnership- and the relationship he intends for his company to have with its future employees- Cory Alexander states: “We are thrilled and honored to be partnering with Best Buddies here locally. The roles that the individuals with [intellectual and developmental disabilities] will have will be very meaningful roles.”

The ice cream used to craft Max’s Best’s cones, dishes, sundaes, and extreme milkshakes will be provided by Vanderwende’s Creamery.

The ice creamery doesn’t have an opening date yet, however the Alexanders are hoping to be prepared to serve up delicious treats by early summer. According to paperwork filed with Montgomery County, Max’s Best will be open from 10 am to 9 pm, 7 days a week.
