After changing the face of frozen treats in DC, a unique sweet shop is planning its next act. Yala Greek Ice Cream will be scouting locations for a second District location, reports the Washington Business Journal.

Yala has been one of the big delights and surprises of of 2025. The concept from co-founders Chrys Kefalas and Steve Shyn has proven enormously popular with DC diners, thanks to its hand-crafted ice creams made with superior ingredients sourced from Greece.

Yala is hoping to spread its delicious treats further across the District; Kefalas and Shyn plan to begin scouting areas for the concept’s second location over the winter. While a specific neighborhood has not been named, the region near Capitol One Arena is of particular interest.

Locals should be prepared to exercise some patience; the new location is still more theoretical than not. Kefalas and Shyn are approaching the venture with precision; Shyn states: “We’ve had a couple offers from different real estate companies. Our team is quite good, but they’re also overworked, so we need to build out the team before we can expand.”

What Now DC will be following developments and will inform readers as updates become available.
