This year’s most exciting culinary fusion may turn out to be one of its most unexpected. While Ethiopian and Mexican cuisines may not immediately seem like compatible plate-mates, celebrated chef Elias Taddesse intends to prove through Moya, his upcoming new concept, that the two blend beautifully, reports Eater Washington DC.
The restaurant will be sharing space with two other Taddesse concepts at its 2108 8th Street NW home. Mélange and Doro Soul Food are already open and serving customers, however Moya’s debut date remains elusive. It is, however, slated to be “coming soon”, so DC foodies won’t have to wait too much longer to check out its fare.
Moya will be serving familiar comfort food favorites in ways and with flavor profiles that will be new to most diners. Chef Taddesse, however, sees the commonalities between Mexican and Ethiopian cuisine and believes they’ll complement each other well, having the same fundamental building blocks. The website tells future regulars that Moya “fuses Ethiopian and Mexican flavors for a bold, fresh twist.” Expect delicious tacos prepared with Ethiopian spices and flavors.
