An exciting and eclectic new concept will be popping up alongside the spring flowers in Alexandria this year. The family-run Omar’s Pitas & Platters will soon begin serving unique and delicious Middle Eastern cuisine in Lynhaven, reports local media outlet ALX Now.

The restaurant will be taking over the space vacated by Marino’s Pizza and Subs at 3100 Richmond Highway. The Omar family spoke with What Now DC about bringing their vision to Alexandria residents.

“With the birth of Omar’s Pitas & Platters, our mission is grounded in a profound commitment to rejuvenating and modernizing the local dining experience.” the restaurateurs state. “As a young and dedicated family, we are enthusiastic about offering the community a refreshing perspective. While paying homage to the heritage of Marino’s, it is crucial to note that we are an entirely new ownership, steering clear of any association with the previous establishment.”

The Omars plan to prioritize substance over style, while still creating a distinctive and memorable dining experience. “Omar’s Pitas & Platters is a testament to our vision for a contemporary, no-frill approach, focusing on delivering impeccable service and high-quality cuisine in the post-COVID era. Our inspiration is drawn from the global culinary landscape, embracing elements from pita bars, halal street carts, and iconic one-and-done establishments. Our goal is to craft something genuinely unique and special for our neighbors, marking a departure from the past and ushering in a fresh chapter in culinary excellence.”

The restaurant will blend a retro-Americana atmosphere with lovingly prepared and delicious Middle Eastern fare. The Omars describe it, stating: “At Omar’s Pitas & Platters, customers can expect a delightful and modern take on the enchanting vibe of 1950s American drive-in and carry-out restaurants. We’re capturing that nostalgic magic and bringing it to you with a fresh, contemporary twist. Our commitment is to provide consistently good food with a menu designed to cater to diverse tastes. The atmosphere will be welcoming, reflecting the warmth of our family, and our service will be attentive and personalized. We aim to create a community-centric space where patrons can enjoy a fusion of flavors crafted by our dedicated family.”

Virginia foodies eager for a sneak-peak at Omar’s menu have much to look forward to. The proprietors say “Omar’s Pitas & Platters offers a simple yet exciting menu that combines the best of various culinary traditions. Our menu features an array of mouth-watering options, including signature pitas, flavorful platters, and unique combinations inspired by our family’s culinary expertise. At the heart of our flavors is the backbone of Middle Eastern spices. From savory grilled meats to vegetarian delights, each dish is crafted to provide a memorable dining experience. Expect a fusion of flavors that pays homage to global street food while embracing our commitment to consistent quality.”

While the Omars do not yet have an established opening date, they are planning to greet guests this spring. The enterprising family is enthusiastic about joining-and feeding-the local community, stating “Our goal is to provide our neighborhood with a revitalized and modern culinary destination as soon as possible. We look forward to expressing our gratitude to the entire community and welcoming everyone to Omar’s Pitas & Platters soon.”
