The Urban Grape, a Massachusetts-based independently-owned wine store, seems to have a plan to open a tavern in DC’s Shaw neighborhood.

Co-owner Hadley Douglas didn’t reveal any reason behind expanding into the restaurant business when reached out for additional information, but she told What Now DC that more details will be announced in fall 2023.

The planned tavern, Urban Grape, will be located at 1301 9th Street NW and it will seat up to 100 guests, according to a liquor license application filed on Friday. Urban Grape will also include a sidewalk cafe with a total capacity of 25 people.

In 2010, Hadley founded The Urban Grape along with her husband TJ Douglas as a small store in Chestnut Hill, Massachusetts, according to the store’s website.

The couple’s business then expanded to the South End neighborhood of Boston and it later included Urban Affairs, a wine-tasting and event company as well as Urban Cellar, a cellar stocking and management company.
