A healthy fast-casual chain is continuing its wave of domination with plans for a new DMV location. Playa Bowls, a New York-based concept that has been serving up nutritious fare for hungry customers since 2014, has filed paperwork to open a storefront in Alexandria.

Franchisees Jeff Giuliani and Dave Eynon are hoping to open the new shop at 1229 King Street in Old Town. The special use permit submitted to the City of Alexandria Department of Planning & Zoning shows that Playa Bowls will occupy a 1,526 square foot space. While the establishment will skew towards take-out, the facility will be able to accommodate up to 20 customers at a time-a small dent in the between 100 and 500 customers it anticipates. The paperwork states that Giuliani and Eynon expect the majority of their customers to stop in at the lunch hour.

The special use permit provides a succinct picture of Playa Bowls’ future contribution to Alexandria: “This will be a quick serve restaurant that prepares and sells fruit bowls, oatmeal bowls, smoothies, and juices for takeout and pickup. Playa Bowls provides healthy options with an emphasis on fresh, high-quality superfruits and ingredients.”

If approved, the Old Town storefront will be open 8 am to 8 pm, Monday through Sunday.
