A great coffee shop is a powerful thing. More than just a place to grab a rejuvenating cup of java, a cafe can prove to be an oasis in the chaos of day-to-day life, while also offering communities a place to gather and forge new connections. Entrepreneur Ashley Blake is currently brewing up Prim’s Cafe, DC’s next favorite coffee shop, with eyes firmly focused on all the possibilities such an establishment offers.

Prim’s, named after Blake’s daughter, will be opening at 1847 7th Street, NW early next year. Blake very generously set aside some time to confirm to What Now DC that she anticipates the coffee shop being customer-ready by mid-January.

The appeal of Prim’s is poised to reach far beyond only coffee fans. The website explains that while, of course, the java will be high quality, the cafe is about creating more than just the perfect cup of joe. “Here, specialty coffee is crafted with care, matcha and juices are made with freshness and balance in mind, and charcuterie boards become little celebrations of togetherness. But Prim’s Café is more than what we serve. It is a comforting, inclusive corner where moms can slow down, kids feel welcome, and neighbors naturally gather.”

Prim’s invites customers to truly become a part of the community through membership subscriptions. Blake explains: “One of the unique things is we are offering founding memberships which are great for gifts and coffee lovers.” The website shows that interested customers can subscribe at the Friend, Bestie, and God Parent level; each tier comes with perks including discounts and free merchandise. Future regulars can explore the options on Prim’s website.

Prim’s promises to bring a warm and vibrant community space to the neighborhood. The cafe’s ethos is certain to inspire enthusiasm in locals: “It’s not just a coffee shop—it’s a place where community grows, families feel supported, and everyone is invited to bloom.”
