A hotly anticipated Bethesda return is one step closer to reality, thanks to an issued construction permit. Call Your Mother, a beloved DMV bagel institution, is gearing up to open a new Bethesda brick-and-mortar following the departure of a mobile deli that had been serving happy locals for several years, reports local media outlet MoCo Show.

The deli has officially received a building permit allowing it to renovate a 4828 St. Elmo Avenue storefront from its previous tenant-Hardwood Artisans-into Call Your Mother. An official opening timeline isn’t presently available, however attaining the construction permit is an important benchmark, one that suggests that ball is rolling faster than ever and Bethesda foodies may be able to enjoy one of the concept’s treats before the year is out.

Call Your Mother has been satisfying DMV carb cravings since it first entered the scene in 2018. Founded by Daniela Moreira and Andrew Dana, the eatery is a successful fusion of whimsy and dedication to crafting a high-quality and delicious product. The website explains: “We don’t take ourselves too seriously, but we’re serious about bagels. With a *chef’s kiss* of honey, they’re somewhere between a classic NY-style bagel and the sweeter, Montreal-style bagels from our friends up North.”

The shop’s appeal has led to the chain spreading across the DMV, with several locations open in DC, Virginia, and Maryland. However Call Your Mother’s charm and delicious menu have taken it beyond the DMV’s borders, with multiple storefronts open in Colorado, and locations planned for Illinois and Pennsylvania.
