Sterling diners, say “goodbye” to McDonald’s and “hello” to your next burger obsession. Shake Shack is getting ready to make its local debut, reports local media outlet The Burn.

The wildly popular fast-casual concept will be making its Loudoun County premiere at 20961 Southbank Street. The lot has long housed a McDonald’s, however that particular burger juggernaut shut its doors in fall of 2024.

Determined to forge its own path and make a clean start, Shake Shack will not be moving into the existing building. The McDonald’s will be demolished, and a new restaurant will be erected for Shake Shack to serve its signature fare.

The new building will feature a drive-thru for visitors on the move, and interior seating for up to 36 guests. Shake Shack has al fresco dining covered as well; the restaurant will offer outdoor dining for 20 patrons.

While progress has been made, the going is slow so far, making it impossible to estimate an opening timeline. McDonald’s is still standing, so demolition time must be factored in, as well as the months required for a new construction and permitting.

Founded in 2004, Shake Shack has found wild success through its burgers, fries, milkshakes, chicken sandwiches, and hot dogs. The chain has a global audience, with more than 400 storefronts worldwide.
