A popular local pizza place is preparing to answer the prayers of DC residents looking for the perfect New York slice. Slice & Pie will be opening a second District location later this year, according to popular Twitter feed @eat_dc.

The eatery will be joining the Parks at Walter Reed mixed use space, located at 1010 Butternut Street, NW, and is aiming for a mid-to-late summer opening.

Slice & Pie co-owner Giulio Adriani spoke to What Now DC about bringing more great pizza to the area this year, and what drew him to the Parks space. “It’s not too far from our first one.” he says, referring to Slice & Pie’s first location on 14th Street. “We believed in it right away. The development is nice, and it’s a good demographic around it, a lot of it is residential, which is always what you look for.”

Adriani opened the first Slice & Pie two years ago, and explains that he believes in allowing ample time between openings to ensure the job is done well and correctly. “Some people do it very fast, and they’re more aggressive in expansion.” he states. “In the past I made that mistake and it never worked very well in terms of quality.”

Adriani wants Slice & Pie to bring a taste of the Big Apple to DC. “The idea was to bring a little bit of the New York vibe and pizza to DC. It’s New York style pie by the slice and by the pie, and we also serve Detroit style which is very popular right now.”

While the 14th Street location is primarily grab and go, Adriani states that visitors will be able to dine-in at the new restaurant. The shop will also serve wine and beer.

Adriani is shooting for a mid-July to early-August opening. He says that he is waiting for permits to return so construction can begin.

Adriani and his crew are looking forward to feeding the area. He states: “It seems like there’s a lot of anticipation for our coming. We’re very excited to come and we have a good feeling about the space and the customers.”
