A DMV-favorite chain is bringing its blend of fresh, delicious treats and good vibes to a new DC location. South Block, beloved by locals for its smoothies, acai bowls, and great atmosphere, is opening a storefront in Western Market, and locals will be able to enjoy all the concept has to offer later this year.
South Block will be opening its 23rd location near George Washington University at 2000 Pennsylvania Ave NW-a location that founder and CEO Amir Mostafavi kindly explains to What Now DC holds special significance to him and the brand at large. “This is a cool location for us because I started my first juice bar at GW 20 years ago exactly, when I opened Campus Fresh in the Learner Health and Wellness Center-which would later become South Block.” he states. “I’ve always wanted to have a location outside of the gym on campus, and the Western Market space was the perfect opportunity for just that.”
Mostafavi and his team hope to have the Western Market location open shortly after spring break ends. Locals excited about South Block’s new location should follow the chain on Instagram for opening updates. Even more exciting for fans of the brand’s amazing and healthy fare-future regulars can sign up for email updates and a free acai bowl here.
South Block has steadily become a DMV institution, with a healthy menu certain to satisfy every taste. Mostafavi and his team are looking forward to bringing the concept full circle and further creating a community through nutritious, nurturing fare. He offers this eloquent summation: “We are excited to be able to serve the broader Foggy Bottom community with this location. Foggy bottom is where we started, it’s the roots of South Block and we’re grateful for the community support over the years And excited to be able to better serve them now.”
