A rapidly growing fast-casual chain is planning to make DC healthier, one salad at a time. Sweetgreen will be expanding its District footprint by opening a Union Market location later this year, reports local media outlet PoPville.

The eatery, which offers a wide range of plates, bowls, and salads, will be opening at 1304 4th Street, NE in early April. The Union Market storefront will be Sweetgreen’s 12th DC location.

The farm-to-table chain is the brainchild of college friends Jonathan Neman, Nathaniel Ru, and Nicolas Jammet. The trio opened their first Sweetgreen in Washington DC in 2007. Anchored by fresh, local, seasonal ingredients, the brand has ballooned to include 221 locations, with restaurants spread across the United States.

Sweetgreen is as invested in supporting a healthy earth as it is in fueling healthy bodies. The company emphasizes sustainability and ethical treatment of animals. Sweetgreen rotates its seasonal menu 5 times annually, to best utilize locally available ingredients.
