It takes a lot of confidence to name a restaurant simply The Grill. However in the case of esteemed hospitality group Knead Hospitality + Design, that confidence is more than earned. The restaurant has received accolades for its superior steaks and quality seafood, and now it is taking its talents to the beach. The concept is opening its newest location in the Atlantic Park Development, and it should be ready to greet customers before the year is out.
Knead’s founder Jason Berry kindly took some time to speak to What Now DC about bringing The Grill to the dynamic up-and-coming mixed-use development. “A lot of people in the region are going to come check this out.” he says, adding that the varied nature of Atlantic Park will draw in a large swath of hungry diners and potential customers. “There’s the retail, the other restaurants, the hotel coming up in the next year or two, and all the tourism and the locals.
We’re really excited about it. We weren’t planning it…but it checks a lot of the boxes that make for a successful development.”
The Grill will span 5,500 square feet, complete with a patio, semi-private event space and an open kitchen.
Berry explains that Knead has been refining The Grill’s menu in anticipation of the Virginia Beach spot. “We updated our The Grill menu.” he says. “It won’t be identical but it will be mostly the same. We added some things we think we need and took out some things that didn’t do as well.”
The Grill is in the midst of construction and Berry is hoping for a mid-October opening.
Berry and the Knead team are looking forward to showing Virginia Beach their chops. Berry states: “We’re ridiculously excited to be planting our flag, and we’re really excited to see how people respond to what we do.”
