The search is over for a popular Loudoun County custard shop. The Meadows Original Frozen Custard, a long-time Ashburn favorite, is taking its talents to Reston later this year, reports local media outlet The Burn.

The beloved eatery will be serving scoops in the South Lakes Village Shopping Center. Owner Michael Nassif explains to What Now DC that the new location at 11120 South Lakes Drive is a geographically fortunate turn of events. “It’s basically in my backyard” he states. “It’s very close to my house and my kids’ school. We’re part of this community so it’s great to be able to serve it.”

The new location will be a slightly different model than The Meadows’ Ashburn home, owing in part to the potential business attracted by being a part of a shopping center. Nassif states: “This is a more traditional strip mall with more steady traffic. There’s a lot of students that hang out there. So from 2:30 to 5 o’clock it’s got kids all over.”

Additionally, the new storefront is smaller than The Meadows’ previous home. However, it has certain scenic advantages Nassif is eager to share with future customers. “One of the nice things is it’s on the lake, so we’ll have some seating and people can feed the ducks.” he says.

Nassif offers this sneak peak to Reston residents eager to sample the custard shop’s fare: “The Meadows started in 1950. My family knows the family, they were farmers who opened a frozen custard stand. Custard is the main product. It’s very traditional, we have milkshakes, all kinds of sundaes, fresh baked cookies, and Italian ice, which gives a good dairy free alternative.”

As for the new possibilities a fresh start might offer, Nassif has some ideas. “We might do fresh waffle cones,” he states, adding  “We’ll probably do more catering, which we had to turn down before.”

Future regulars will be able to savor a sweet treat this spring. Nassif states that he is projecting a mid-May opening. He explains that he and his team are currently in the design phase and he is hoping for an 8 to 9 week buildout.
