A new cafe is preparing to brew up a fresh pot for Virginia diners. Underdog Coffee & Bread is getting ready to serve Annandale foodies, reports local media outlet Annandale Today.
The eatery will be setting up shop at 7109 Columbia Pike. Owner Jung Kim tells What Now DC that for her and her partner and husband, Annandale-their home for 25 years-provided the perfect atmosphere and space for this latest endeavor. “We liked the vibes of Annandale.” she states. “Especially open parking spaces on our property. Most customers go on and off for short stays for coffees, so it was important to find the ideal site with a huge parking space.”
Kim and her spouse’s years in hospitality and passion for java made Underdog a logical next step for the duo. She explains: “My husband and I have a lot of experience in the restaurant business. As entrepreneurs and managers, we have not stopped taking on new challenges for 20 years. As a couple who love and enjoy coffee as well as food, it was an important part of the trip to always travel in search of good coffee shops and beans.”
Underdog gives Kim and her partner a venue to reflect the wants and needs of modern diners. She states: “We know that the restaurant market situation is changing, because we know that people are no longer preferring heavy food, but are looking for more casual, simple, and attractive places. Therefore, we want Underdog to appeal to people not only enjoying high-end coffee and homemade foods, but also as a charming space to hang out with their loved ones.”
Alongside satisfying cups of joe, the shop will offer delicious snacks for hungry guests. Kim describes the menu saying: “We have specialty coffees, quality pastries, homemade cream cheese, homemade healthy low sugar jams, bagels, avocado toasts, breakfast sandwiches, and acai bowls.”
Kim does not yet have an official opening date available for Underdog, but anticipates it debuting at some point over the next few weeks.
She and her spouse plan to deepen their connection to the surrounding dining community. She states: “We will soon expand our business to other local areas to further grow Underdog’s coffee business.”
