One of DC’s most innovative breweries is planting seeds for a new location. Urban Garden Brewing will be opening as a part of the Art Place at Fort Totten Development, according to popular Twitter user @eat_dc.

It has not yet been announced where, precisely, the concept will be located within the sprawling, mixed-use project, which aims to recreate the section of Ward 5 along Dakota Avenue into a comprehensive, walkable community. Urban Garden Brewing will be joining apartment buildings, grocery stores, various eateries, and cultural hotspots in creating DC’s newest neighborhood. Urban Garden is part of phase II of Art Place’s development, which is set to open at an undetermined point next year.

Urban Garden Brewing, the passion project of Eamoni Collier, is certain to add a welcome burst of delicious, boozy creativity to the neighborhood. The trailblazer can claim the name of DC’s first Black woman-owned brewery.

Urban Garden strives to provide the crowded beer market with something distinctive and new. The brewery’s website describes its product, stating: “Our recipes are inspired by the ancient practices of Egyptian women, who, according to history, believed beer to have powerful healing properties. Reminiscent of tea, our special blends draw from the fragrance and healing properties of flowers, herbs, and spices.”
