A celebrated ice creamery is preparing to add an extra scoop of sweetness to DC. Van Leeuwen has plans for a new DMV location, reports popular Twitter feed @eat_dc.

The company, celebrated for its wide range of gourmet flavors and vegan varieties, will be taking over the space at 660 Pennsylvania Avenue SE that formerly housed Captain Cookie. The latter establishment closed its doors on April 28, so fans eager to enjoy a frozen treat will need to practice patience.

Little information is currently available about the newest Van Leeuwen location. An opening timeline has not been made public. What Now DC has reached out to Van Leeuwen but is still awaiting a response.

DC residents who have yet to sample the ice cream luminary’s fare have ample reason to be excited. Van Leeuwen, which currently has three locations operating in the District, scoops what NYT Wirecutter has deemed the best vanilla ice cream. The brand makes a wide variety of unusual flavors, like honeycomb and marionberry cheesecake, in addition to beloved favorites like cookies and cream and mint chip.
