A popular ice cream concept is preparing to make DC commutes a little sweeter. Van Leeuwen ice cream, known for its impressive range of both classic and unusual flavors, is opening a new location at Union Station later this year, reports local media outlet PoPville.
The ice creamery will begin serving scoops out of 50 Massachusetts Avenue, NE, this summer. Van Leeuwen will be in good company; the shop is joining Raising Cane’s, The Halal Guys, Jamba Juice, Wendy’s, Shake Shack, and Cinnabon at the transportation hub.
Union Station will bring considerable foot traffic to the beloved ice cream shop. Founder and CEO Ben Van Leeuwen is enthusiastic about bringing the brand to the area. He states “DC has been such an amazing, welcoming city to us and we can’t wait to open in Union Station and scoop good ice cream to city travelers.”
Travelers with a sweet tooth have good reason to anticipate Van Leeuwen’s arrival; the ice creamery has garnered considerable acclaim, including earning the distinction of scooping the “best vanilla ice cream”, as ranked by NYT Wirecutter.
