Exciting developments are brewing near James Island as plans for a new brewery and tasting room take shape in a once-vacant commercial space.

According to recent permits filed with the city, Charles Towne Fermentory is gearing up to launch a new location at 1750 Signal Point Rd Suite 165. Founded in 2016 by Adam Goodwin, the brewery already boasts two successful West Ashley ventures known as Avondale and The Garden.

Spanning over a whopping 15,000 square feet across two stories, the new brewery’s design includes a dedicated 4,600 square foot tasting room. This expansive layout promises ample space for guests to gather and savor the brewery’s hop-forward and fermentation-driven beers. With a capacity for over 200 patrons, including a cozy mezzanine area, there’s plenty of room to sip and socialize.

In addition to their signature brews, Charles Towne Fermentory also offers draft wine and ciders, natural wine, canned hard kombucha and sake, and Underberg, a natural herb bitter perfect for post-meal enjoyment. To complement the drinks, patrons can indulge in a rotating selection of the area’s finest food trucks.

Goodwin was unavailable for immediate comment, so stay tuned for further updates as this exciting project progresses.

CORRECTION: An earlier version of this article erroneously stated that the brewery would be near Johns Island; in fact, it will be near James Island.
