A new Costco store is coming to Clermont. It will be built on a 19-acre parcel of the 140-acre parcel of open land on State Route 50 (West Colonial Drive), northeast of Magnolia Pointe Boulevard. An exact opening date has not been set but it will be sometime in 2022.
It will be the fifth Greater Orlando area Costco with others at 2101 Waterbridge Blvd. in Orlando; 741 Orange Ave. in Altamonte Springs; 3333 University Blvd. in Winter Park; and 4696 Gardens Park Blvd. in Orlando.
According to construction intel, the new store will be 151,000 square feet, which is a typical size for a Costco location. In addition to the construction jobs the project will create, Costco stores generally hire hundreds of part-time and full-time retail positions per store.
The giant piece of open land will also be home to a Floor and Decor Holdings store in what will be called Plaza Collina, according to the Orlando Business Journal. There will also be apartments on the site. The property was originally going to be an upscale shopping center but those plans went bust when Walmart was set to be the anchor and protests followed. Walmart pulled out and the project died.
Florida has more than two dozen Costco warehouses.
