A casual wine bar in downtown Charleston is uncorking its last bottle at the end of the month, but this isn’t the final pour for the stylish spot.

Earlier this week, Bar Rollins announced that it will close its doors at 194 Jackson St on Sunday, October 27, 2024. Owner Chris Rollins cited “a whole mix of things” behind the decision, noting that the bar has outgrown its snug 700-square-foot space.

A Charleston native, Rollins began sharing his passion for wine on Instagram with his wife, Lizzy, in January 2020. By April 2021, he was hosting pop-ups, and in 2022, he partnered with local designer and brand strategist Jess Vande Werken to open Bar Rollins. The space quickly became known for its quirky, laid-back vibe and playful mix of “magnums and hot dogs, baby”—big on character, low on pretension.

Now, the Bar Rollins team is searching for a larger space, with hopes of staying in downtown Charleston. According to The Post and Courier, Rollins plans to recreate the same vibey atmosphere in a new venue—this time with a full kitchen.

“Let us know if you have/learn about a space for us,” wrote Rollins. “We can’t wait to see what goes into 194 Jackson. It’s a truly special room. We live here. We love it here. We are going to re-open somewhere else so soon. That’s how it starts. Bar Rollins 2.0 coming soon.”

In the meantime, the team plans to return to their pop-up roots in November. For updates on the move, follow Bar Rollins on Facebook and Instagram.
