A popular ice cream shop that closed about a year ago is making a comeback.
Three Monkeys Ice Cream Parlour plans to reopen in a 2,000-square-foot retail space at 915 Folly Rd, Unit P on James Island, according to a recent Facebook update from Harbor Commercial Partners.
Restaurateurs and longtime partners John and Stephanie Teevan, who named the shop after their three children, confirmed this news with What Now Charleston. “Yes, I am bringing Three Monkeys back,” said Stephanie.
The Teevans are well-versed in the restaurant business. They previously operated St. James Gate Irish Pub on Folly Beach (where the original Three Monkeys was launched), as well as Prohibition cocktail lounge on Upper King Street. Additionally, they built five bars together in New York. They have since sold their stake in Prohibition and all of their other bars, according to an older report from The Folly Current.
Fans of Three Monkeys can expect the same indulgent treats that made the original location a favorite, including a variety of ice cream and soft-serve flavors, potentially created in collaboration with their former partner, Wholly Cow Ice Cream.
The signature “Crazy Shakes” are likely to be the highlight, offering extravagantly crafted delights like the Birthday Shake—packed with birthday cake ice cream, sprinkles, lollipops, a cupcake, frosting, and whipped cream—and the Magically Delicious, which combines mint chocolate chip ice cream, fudge swirl, Lucky Charms marshmallows, chocolate gold coins, buttercream frosting, and whipped cream.
While an official opening date hasn’t been set, John told What Now Charleston that they’re aiming for a spring 2025 launch. For the latest updates, follow Three Monkeys Ice Cream Parlour on Facebook.
