One of the borough’s preeminent winemakers is getting ready to develop a brand new concept for Brooklyn.
Bar Vinazo is the latest concept to be announced from celebrated restaurateurs Joe Campanale and Ilyssa Satter. As a native New Yorker, Joe opened his first restaurant dell’anima when he was only 23 years. Launching to very quick success, Joe was soon able to open up two new concepts, L’Artusi in 2008 and Anfora in 2010, both celebrated for their natural wine program. Having been named as Food & Wine magazine’s “Sommelier of the Year”, oenophiles beyond New York came to know Joe through his popular podcast “In the Drink”.
In 2017, he partnered with Creative Director Ilyssa Satter to open up Fausto, a beloved Italian restaurant that pays tribute to Park Slope’s historic architecture and diverse community. The team then hit another home run when they launched LaLou in 2019, opening up a Prospect Heights restaurant and wine bar with a focus on natural, biodynamic and small-production wines. Named as “One of the best Wine Bars in NYC” by both Eater and The Infatuation, LaLou quickly established itself as one of the neighborhood’s must-visit dining destinations.
Now, Joe and Ilyssa are once again teaming up to develop a brand new concept. Their latest concept, Bar Vinazo, is currently expected to open up at 158 Seventh Avenue in Brooklyn later this spring. Spotlighting organic and biodynamic producers, the new bar will focus on Spanish wine and cuisine, highlighting flavors from Galicia, Catalonia, and Basque Country, as well as Spanish meats and cheeses.
At the moment, Joe and Ilyssa still have a lot of work ahead of them before they can reveal further information about their new concept. While you wait though, you can follow Bar Vinazo on Instagram for regular updates as progress continues. Additionally, Oenophiles interested in learning about the essentials of Italian wine can purchase Joe’s critically acclaimed book on the subject – Vino.
