Cheddar’s Scratch Kitchen, the iconic Texas-based comfort food brand, is gearing up to open its second Delaware outpost early next year in the former 10,300-square-foot Old Country Buffet located in Center Pointe Plaza at 1325 Churchmans Rd.
A representative of Cheddar’s, nor its parent company Darden Restaurants, immediately returned a request for comment.
According to Delaware Online, the company signed a lease back in April and that the site is currently under construction. What’s more, in 2018 Delaware Online, in conjunction with The News Journal, conducted a poll to see what should replace a different shuttered restaurant in the area, Don Pablo’s, “and Cheddar’s was a popular response.”
Cheddar’s Scratch Kitchen was founded in Irving, TX in 1979 and quickly made a name for itself with its comfort food classics such as Homemade Chicken Pot Pie, Country Fried Steak, Monte Cristo, and New Orleans Pasta.
And if the menu weren’t enough to convince diners of the company’s homespun family values, its name, Cheddar’s, came straight from the innocence of a 5th-grade classroom when founders Aubry Good and Doug Rogers asked for restaurant name suggestions.
