The team behind popular music-forward dive bar Red Dwarf is preparing to launch another new concept this fall. Fat Cat, a divey new jazz, blues, and cocktail bar will open at 206 N Third St in Downtown Las Vegas.

“It’s going to be something that’s not what most people think of when they imagine a jazz/blues bar,” owner Russell Gardner told What Now on Thursday. “Most people think of something quiet, with background music. But this is very similar to Red Dwarf in that music is a key component.”

With space for bout 120 guests, Fat Cat will offer drinks along with freshly baked breads and charcuterie, in slight contrast to Red Dwarf, whose food offerings center on Detroit-style pizza. Cocktails at Dwarf have included the Mexican Diablo (tequila, lime, crème de cassis, and ginger beer), and the Trinidad Not My Real Dad (bourbon, Angostura Amaro, Orgeat, lemon, lime, ginger beer, bitters, absinthe).

Opening on Third Street between Stewart Avenue and East Ogden Avenue, Fat Cat will join neighbors like Art Bar, Pizza Rock, and Hogs & Heifers Saloon. It’s expected to open in August.

In the meantime, you can follow @fatcat_lv on Instagram to keep up with the opening.
