The McCarthy family are planning an expansion of their popular Old School Burgers brand, beginning with a new location in Ocean City. The elevated burger establishment, located at 3401, Asbury Avenue, is in the permitting phase, and looking at an early summer opening.
Old School Burgers owner, Shawn McCarthy, tells What Now Philadelphia that all the paperwork has been submitted and the restaurant is close to being fully staffed.
McCarthy runs Old School Burgers’ business operations abetted by his wife Terri, his brother Chris, and son Patrick. He states that the restaurateurs “thought Ocean City needed something like us. We’re providing a different option that will fit nicely with Ocean City.”
Old School is a passion-project with a retro atmosphere. The decor is nostalgia-heavy, featuring vintage games and photography. “We’re hoping to bring an old-school nostalgia experience to our customers”, McCarthy explains.
Old School Burgers makes its burgers fresh, in-house daily. McCarthy states that the establishment sources ingredients from local businesses, making Old School a true community endeavor.
The Ocean City Old School Burgers will provide a more expansive menu than the two existing restaurants. The new location will serve breakfast, as well as the regular Old School lunch and dinner menu. In addition to serving the burgers, cheesesteaks, fries, chicken sandwiches, and hot dogs that gained the restaurant a loyal following, the Ocean City Old School Burgers will offer pasta trays for takeout orders.
The McCarthy family has big plans for Old School Burgers. The entrepreneurs aim to open eight Old School locations by 2030. McCarthy states that they are currently scouting locations in Pennsylvania and some additional shore points.
