This Tuesday, during the annual CityBeat breakfast hosted by San Francisco’s Chamber of Commerce, Supervisor Aaron Peskin announced that the historic Mexican food restaurant Don Ramon’s will soon be back in business — planning to open at Four Embarcadero late this August.
The eatery — registered as a San Francisco legacy business in 2020 — shuttered in March 2023, just two months ago, following a 40-year run in SoMa at 225 11th Street.
Co-owner Nati Ramirez tells What Now San Francisco, “The pandemic took a huge toll.”
Following a search for a new space that began in April — and that lead them through neighborhoods such as the Mission and the Tenderloin — she and her sisters and co-owners, Leo and Lucy Ramirez, settled on the lobby-level Embarcadero space, which used to belong to Rubio’s.
While the space is much smaller, approximately 3000 square feet large, Ramirez hopes to recapture the essence of the previous location — intending to paint the walls the same shade and bring some of the tables and chairs.
“The location is perfect for us. We’re going to try to make it look like you’re leaving the Embarcadero and entering into a mini Don Ramon’s,” she shares.
The food menu will be the same as before — boasting a wide selection of burritos, street tacos, and seafood plates — except, unlike its SoMa spot, the restaurant will be open for lunch.
“We’re thankful to Bob Peester and Christine Ngyuen of Boston Properties — they were very accommodating,” she adds, crediting them for stepping up and providing essential assistance.
Currently working on acquiring all of the required permits, Don Ramon’s is slated to open in late August. In the meantime, follow the eatery on Facebook and Instagram.
