A tempting new spot for sweet treats will soon debut at dual Memphis area locations.
901 Slushies is planning to open two shops: one at 1469 Wells Station Rd in Midtown and another at 6253 Stage Rd in Bartlett.
Conveniently situated next to Santa Ana Mexican Bar & Grill, which celebrates its grand opening today, July 5, the Bartlett location will be ideal for enjoying a sweet treat after savoring classic Mexican fare.
Owner Christopher Calix told What Now Memphis that the upcoming shops will operate as Michoacán-style paleterías and neverías, or traditional Mexican ice cream and popsicle shops. They will offer Mexican-inspired treats such as slushies, ice cream, paletas, and fruit cocktails, featuring a variety of exotic flavors.
“But ours is going to be a little bit different,” said Calix. “We’re going to have a slushie wall with 8 to 10 different slushies. And then we’re going to have a candy bar right in front of it with about 32 different candy flavors—M&M’s, Skittles, every candy you can think of. There’s a big candy bar to put in the slushies or even ice cream scoops.”
After a friend who owns the plaza posted the Wells Station listing on Facebook, Calix took notice and decided to pursue the space. As a Bartlett resident, he stumbled upon the Stage Rd spot while visiting a nearby Baskin-Robbins and immediately recognized its potential. The reasonable rent price was just the icing on the cake.
Calix is diligently preparing both locations for their upcoming debuts. While the Wells Station spot is likely to open first, there are no set grand opening dates yet. Calix hopes for soft openings in the coming weeks, followed by grand openings shortly after. For the latest updates, follow 901 Slushies on Facebook and Instagram.
