Located at 7185 W Charleston Blvd., The Hush Puppy is one of the oldest restaurants in Las Vegas, serving up Cajun cuisine and Southern comfort food for nearly fifty years. It was for that reason that, when the restaurant went up for sale, local restaurateur Magdy Amer decided to purchase and preserve the half-century old spot.
“I just hated to see it close,” Amer told What Now on Wednesday. “It’s a part of Las Vegas history.”
Now at the helm of the operation since acquiring it about two and half years ago, Amer is preparing to expand The Hush Puppy with a new location at Neonopolis, next to the Heart Attack Grill. The new location will be an homage to original, featuring the same color scheme and the same favorites from the menu.
“All the recipes are fifty years old, and the cooks are the same cooks cooking there for years,” Amer said of the brand’s original location.
The Hush Puppy Dinner menu features starters like Louisiana Seafood Gumbo and Fried Green Tomatoes, along with Cajun Classics like Jambalaya, Shrimp & Catfish Creole, and N’Awlins Catfish Delight (3 blackened farm reaissed catfish over rice smothered with a rich & creamy Cajun alfredo sauce).
“We’re bringing Southern hospitality and Southern comfort food to Fremont Street, so be sure to come over and try it,” Amer said.
