The Southern Nevada Health District (SNHD) conducted a routine health inspection in Las Vegas. An ice cream truck, Kona Ice, was not in compliance with the food safety standards. Given the demerits scored and the potential health hazard, the inspecting official ordered a temporary closure for Kona Ice of Centennial Hills.

Kona Ice of Centennial Hills is a national ice cream truck franchise that serves ice cream across various locations within Las Vegas. Their unique gourmet shaved ice cream offers a refreshing, tropical experience. One can even customize their ice flavor at Kona Ice, along with dancing to Island tunes to enjoy the treat.

The Kona Ice truck at the location mentioned above could not pass a routine health inspection on May 15. The truck was not operating within the parameters of the guidelines stated by the SNHD, as per the inspecting officer.

The ice cream truck needs to operate as per public health safety guidelines. The officer observed a missing Hazard Analysis Critical Control Point (HACCP) plan. An industry-specific HACCP plan and operating according to it are a must for any food business. The inspection report is available for public review. 

Kona Ice received five demerits, prompting the SNHD to close the truck until further notice. Currently, there are no insights regarding further inspection and reopening of the ice cream truck. However, it is the responsibility of every food business operator to ensure community health and safety.
