Woodbury Heights, New Jersey’s first microbrewery is planned for the corner of Route 45 and Alliance St. at 988 Mantua Pike in Units 1 and 2. Sons of Barley Beer Company has submitted an application for a site plan review of a 3,000 sq. ft. interior space that will serve as a 75-seat brewery. According to the Courier Post, the Borough of Woodbury Heights Planning and Zoning Board is expected to review the application sometime in January.
Once all their approvals are in place, they can move forward with renovations and brewing beer. They anticipated that they’d be able to open in March, but that day is likely to be pushed back since the application deadline for the December planning board hearing was missed. Once approved, Scott Rigilano, who owns Sons of Barley with John Kelly, says that the company intends to start brewing beers to be sold in bars, liquor stores, and restaurants.
“I think our opening day will be a little later than the time we can actually sell beer,” Rigilano told the Courier Post. “Everybody’s excited about the place. We’ve had so many people come in and knock on the door.”
Rigilano expects the establishment to draw a good crowd and help bring business to next-door eateries like the pizzeria and wing spot in the same shopping center. The craft beer brewery will start with a small system and eventually upgrade to a larger one. Sons of Barley Beer Company’s head brewer will craft a range of brews on 16 rotating taps.
