John’s Water Ice, the family restaurant that has been around since 1945, is adding a new location and a new food truck to their business soon. The new brick and mortar will be located at 2975 Philmont Ave in Huntingdon Valley.
When What Now Philadelphia spoke to Anthony Cardullo Jr. via phone he said that going into their 77th year of operation, this new location will be a full dessert shop with their famous water ice, hard ice cream, gelati, sundaes, floats, and that their tradition of only using real fruit to flavor their treats will continue. He stated that the new shop should be opening around Memorial Day.
Cardullo also said that his nephew Frank would be in charge of the second location, so now a fourth generation of the family would be a part of the business. Frank is the great-grandson of the original John and Anthony himself is the third generation of the Cardullo family who are part of John’s Water Ice.
Cardullo stated that the new location will be across the street from the Philmont Country Club and will have the flavors that make the restaurant so popular like lemon, cherry, chocolate, and pineapple, and seasonal flavors like honeydew, which only comes around once or twice a year, and that blueberry will be making an appearance. He hinted that there could be some new items like a Bananas Foster flavor in the mix. He added that popular hard ice cream varieties like raspberry chocolate chip would be there too.
The second truck should start making the rounds in the coming weeks and in no time at all, fans of John’s Water Ice in the Northeast will be able to pick up their favorites in their own neighborhood.
