Fiore Fine Foods, the gelato shop, bakery, and restaurant helmed by husband and wife team Ed Crochet and Justine MacNeil, is opening a new daytime outpost at 2413 Frankford Ave in late spring or early summer.
“We live up near Fishtown, so we’re excited to have a business in that area,” Crochet tells What Now Philadelphia. “It’s obviously a thriving community and it’s expanding day by day. I think it’s a good opportunity for us to reach an audience that we don’t reach currently, and an audience that I think has an appetite for the kind of stuff that we do. That’s kind of the motivation for opening up there.”
Fiore’s flagship location on S Front St in Queen Village became quite a hit when it opened a few years ago, thanks to its culinary trifecta of quality Italian food, signature gelato, and artisanal baked goods.
As the duo behind Fiore writes on their website, the restaurant “is a casual fine dining experience with an emphasis on creating locally driven dishes by way of classic Italian cuisine,” adding, “Comfortably seated in our dining room, your journey through our family style menu is full of handmade pastas, sustainably and ethically sourced proteins and produce, as well as desserts that explore the many regions of Italy with a nod to American flavors.”
However, whereas South Front St Fiore focuses on its dinner offerings, the new location will serve as more of a daytime affair.
“It’s going to be a bakery and gelato-focused operation,” says Crochet. “We’re going to do lunch as well. Basically, our weekend daytime programming is a bunch of different kinds of pastries and breakfast sandwiches, and we’re taking that as a starting point and expanding from there.”
