Amanda Shulman, the rising star of Philadelphia’s culinary scene and owner of Her Place Supper Club, is due to open a new restaurant in collaboration with soon-to-be-husband and illustrious chef in his own right, Alex Kemp Roussy, at 2005 Walnut St; however details on the restaurant’s name, concept, and opening date remain closely guarded.
“We’re actually not sharing any details yet, at this time,” Shulman told What Now Philadelphia during a brief phone conversation.
Nevertheless, speaking to The Philadelphia Inquirer last month, Shulman promised that, “Philly’s in for a treat.”
Aside from her undeniable skills in the kitchen, Shulman is equally as innovative with her concepts, having launched Her Place as a pop-up back in June 2021. Now located at 1740 Sansom St, “Her Place is kind of like a restaurant but kind of like a dinner party. The menu changes biweekly, sometimes daily, sometimes a la minute,” evoking the experience of “showing up to your mom’s friend’s house for dinner and just eating whatever she makes,” as Shulman describes it on the company’s website.
To be sure, Shulman told the Inquirer that the new concept would not be called “Our Place,” a reference to her partnership with Kemp Roussy, whom Shulman said is the “best cook I know,” adding, “It’s been our dream to do a restaurant together.”
The new restaurant’s home has played host to a number of popular names in the past, including Bar Poulet, Tria Taproom, and Joyride Beef & Ale, making Shulman a fitting choice to carry on the space’s legacy.
