A popular national ice cream chain is landing in University City later this year. Van Leeuwen Ice Cream will be opening its fourth Philadelphia location in time to help sweaty city residents combat the summer heat, reports local media outlet The Daily Pennsylvanian.
The beloved chain, well-known for offering an impressive range of vegan ice cream flavors in addition to the conventional dairy variety, will be opening at 3631 Walnut Street. The storefront previously housed The Accolade on Chestnut.
While Van Leeuwen intends to open the University City eatery-it’s 55th national location-this summer, an official opening date is not yet available. The ice creamery will be positioned conveniently close to the University of Pennsylvania and Drexel University.
Van Leeuwen Ice Cream entered the frozen treats dining scene in New York in 2008. The now-celebrated national chain began life as a series of food trucks. Van Leeuwen has flourished thanks to its wide range of flavors and commitment to using fresh, natural ingredients.
