Obon Sushi Bar and Ramen is in the works for opening their fourth location at 2502 E Camelback Road #119.
“Things are going,” said Director of Marketing Matt Martinez when he spoke to What Now Phoenix on Friday. “The building has been pretty tough because the cost of building supplies has been really high, but we’re moving.”
The restaurant, headed out by Master Chef Paulo Im, will be different than the other locations. The company recently underwent a shift in ownership as Andre Joffroy took over.
“With COVID and everything, we’ve made a concerted effort to shift the identity of Obon and how it operates,” said Martinez. “With this new one, we’re actually going to launch a branding relift, a new website, a new logo, and food innovation.”
Part of the menu changes include adding robatayaki, or robata for short, which is a Japanese-style barbecue where a variety of proteins and vegetables are cooked on skewers over a really hard charcoal.
“It’s cooked slowly over high heat and all of the skewers lay over this bed of charcoal, and it’s one of the more exciting things we’ll be adding to the menu.”
Since most people associate Obon with the ramen, the relift of the brand is dedicated to offering a slightly more elevated and high-end experience than what’s found at the other locations.
As of now, location number four is set to open sometime in the fall or winter of 2021.
