The Department of Environmental Health and Quality conducts routine inspections at food establishments across the region. During one such inspection in San Diego on June 2, 2025, several food safety violations were found in a separate events and catering space associated with Treehouse, prompting a temporary closure order for that area.

Please note: The report referenced here pertains solely to the inspection of the events/catering space on June 2 and does not reflect the current status of Treehouse’s main restaurant, which remains open and recently passed its own inspection with a score of 97%.

Highlights

  • A separate events/catering space operated by Treehouse was ordered to close temporarily after a June 2 inspection in San Diego.
  • Violations cited included vermin activity and an uncovered open window in an unused area.
  • Treehouse’s restaurant remains open and recently earned a 97% score during its own health inspection.
  • Management is confident the events space will pass re-inspection soon.

Details of the Inspection

The June 2 inspection focused on a section of the facility used for events and catering, not the main restaurant. The inspection report noted issues such as signs of rodent activity and an open, uncovered window, both of which pose potential risks to food safety. Inspectors also emphasized the importance of preventing animal entry and maintaining clean, vermin-proof premises.

As a result, the events/catering space was ordered closed until the violations can be addressed and a follow-up inspection confirms compliance.

Statement from Treehouse

Tim Zapanta, General Manager of Treehouse, shared the following statement:

“Treehouse is committed to fresh and thoughtfully crafted food and coffee beverages, ensuring everything is made with the utmost care. The area in question was not in use during the time of inspection and had not been occupied for a significant length of time, nor had it served any guests for a significant length of time. We are confident that the space will meet all requirements upon reinspection and look forward to a successful outcome. Treehouse, the restaurant, recently had a health inspection and passed with a 97%. We are thrilled with the results as we take health and safety seriously. We are open and operating—come see us anytime, we’d love to have you.”

[Editor’s note: an earlier version of this article indicated that the restaurant itself had failed its inspection. We regret the error.]
