After rising from the ashes of bankruptcy and scandal like a caramelized phoenix, Sucré is poised to once again spread its wings; this time bringing a new location to 4711 Freret St. The planned Uptown location for the stylish local dessert shop is currently in a construction phase. Because it will function as a retail pastry shop without any on-site cooking or food prep, the new Sucré location could open quickly after construction wraps up. The dessert shop known for its eye-catching sweets and décor currently has other locations on Magazine Street, Royal Street, and in Covington.

Sucré was founded in 2007 by entrepreneur Joel Dondis and pastry chef Tariq Hanna. Though the dessert shop hit sales figures above $5 million in 2015, it would fall from grace due to sexual harassment allegations and a bankruptcy filing in 2019. Ayesha Motwani bought the company in 2020 and a newly formed business partnership is expected to trigger a major expansion into markets around Louisiana and the country. In October, the company opened its third shop, which is located in Covington.
