There’s no shortage of great Tex-Mex spots in southern Louisiana, but these restaurants don’t reflect the seasonal variety you can find south of the border. One restaurant planned for Baton Rouge will do just that when it opens this fall in the former VooDoo BBQ at 3510 Drusilla Ln. Called Veracruz, the restaurant will still have tacos and enchiladas, but the rest of the menu will rotate seasonally, according to a report from 225 Magazine. The restaurant will have a full bar, open kitchen, patio seating and a charcoal oven imported from Spain. What Now New Orleans has connected with ownership for more information but has yet to receive additional details about the restaurant.
A permit for Veracruz was filed with the Baton Rouge Planning Commission by William Mealer, who also owns La Carreta Mid City in Baton Rouge. That restaurant is more in keeping with the standard Tex-Mex format.
