New June’s first brick-and-mortar bakery in Philadelphia’s Brewerytown neighborhood at 2623 W. Girard Avenue, is opening December 7, 2024. New June was founded in 2021 as a “baking as pandemic therapy” passion project by Noelle Blizzard, who is entirely self-taught from cookbooks and YouTube videos. Her online cake studio and micro-bakery (operated out of a small, commercial kitchen) quickly amassed a national following, namely for the brand’s signature vintage-inspired and Lambeth-style cakes. Three years later, Blizzard was named a Rising Star Baker by StarChefs.

“I got into baking as a therapeutic hobby early in the pandemic; I think back to 2020, wearing my 3-month-old daughter on my chest while I made shortbread to sell in a fundraiser, and truly cannot believe or could have predicted the bakery that now stands,” shared Noelle Blizzard, Founder and Owner in a statement.

New June prioritizes aesthetics and flavor in equal measure, utilizing high-quality ingredients to deliver nostalgia-inducing, seasonal flavors. Sweetened with homemade jams and mascarpone whipped creams, New June’s savory-leaning ingredients are combined with texture-rich, crunchy elements to deliver complex fruit-forward cake flavors. “Opening New June’s first storefront is a return to my neighborhood, where it all began, baking for my friends and neighbors, contributing to a special sense of shared community, with the joy only a delicious sweet treat from your tiny local bakery can offer. From day 1, New June was developed with the guiding thought: ‘If I ever had a bakery, what would I want to see on the menu?, and then: If there was ever a bakery in my neighborhood, what would I most want it to offer?’… And that’s what we’ll be,” added Blizzard.

In addition to cakes, New June will offer a same-day retail menu on Friday and Saturday at the bakery. The retail menu will feature an assortment of seasonal and classic single-layer “breakfast cakes,” cookies, seasonal tarts and pies, and more These items are made with the same intentionality as New June’s cakes, uncompromising in high-quality ingredients, nuanced flavors, design-forward as a bakery standard.

Located in Philadelphia’s hip Brewerytown neighborhood in a building rife with old-school charm on Girard Avenue, Blizzard led the design of the herself. Saturated with hues of pinks, blues, and yellows and a blend of mixed materials to form the backdrop for New June’s desserts while embracing femininity at every angle. Noelle created a space that feels warm and joyous where guests will feel like they have walked into something special. The space that mirrors the care for aesthetics, beauty, and quality, that is reflected in New June’s cakes and baked goods.

“I’ve dreamt of one day designing this bakery for years, slowly building a must-haves list that spans many Pinterest boards. And the best feature of all is the circle of friends and family who built and contributed to it. My dad laid all of the flooring, tiled the pastry counter, and hung almost everything you see! A childhood friend painted the most beautiful floral painting and curated the gallery, one of my dad’s best friends did all of our carpentry. It feels like a project that never would have happened if it weren’t for the luck and love of my community” – shared Blizzard.

New June’s bakery location is open to walk-ins on Friday from 9 am to 3 pm and Saturday from 9 am to 1 pm. New June cakes are available for local delivery and pickup via new-june.com.
