The team behind Venezuelan hotspot Casa Ora is opening a sister property in Williamsburg. Lulla’s (169 Graham Ave) is NYC’s first Venezuelan bakery, opening officially on Monday, February 3rd.
Led by restaurateur Ivo Diaz, his mother Isbelis Diaz, and Chef Diego Farias of Casa Ora, Lulla’s is an inviting all-day cafe that will serve a selection of sweet and savory pastries, fresh coffee and espresso, and handcrafted cocktails, made in partnership with Leo Robitschek of Eleven Madison Park. The bakery is named after the couple’s youngest daughter – a “little sister” to Casa Ora, which is named after their eldest daughter Ora.
Lulla’s is Ivo’s passion project – an amalgamation of his love for unique, inventive cocktails and simple baked goods. Its opening is a testament to his perseverance: back in 2011, Ivo tried to open a similar concept in Sunnyside. Now, fourteen years later, his dream concept is finally coming to life.
Menu items include renditions of the homestyle pastries Ivo grew up with, including:
– Mandocas – fried cornmeal fritters finished with butter
– Tequeños – Venezuelan cheese sticks wrapped in a chewy fried dough
– Cachitos – a flaky layered pastry studded with ham and melted cheese
– Pan de leche – sweet milk rolls dusted with crunchy sugar
– Golfeados – Venezuelan sticky buns served with slices of Mano cheese for a rich sweet-and-savory bite
- Additional bakery items such as pan canilla (baguette) and campesino (batard) will be available to take home.
Diaz has plans to launch brunch and a new coffee-infused cocktail programming in the coming months, with plans to expand the menu further later this year.
