With fast-casual chicken fever at an all-time high, the City of Brotherly Love is preparing to welcome another poultry paradise into its heart and stomach. Layne’s Chicken Fingers, an established Texas brand, is plotting its Philadelphia debut, reports the Philadelphia Business Journal.
The chain is hoping to open between 10 and 15 locations over the course of the next seven years. Described as “premium fast food”, Layne’s is exploring a number of locations in the Philly metro area, including notably Bucks and Chester counties, South Jersey, and Northern Delaware. However, foodies enthusiastic for a new fast-casual option shouldn’t count their unhatched chickens just yet; no leases have been signed.
Nor have franchisees been selected. While the brand is vetting potential candidates, it is taking its time in selecting entrepreneurs who match Layne’s ethos and drive. COO Samir Wattar explains that the chain has a lofty goal, stating “We’re on a mission to build the next big thing.”
Though Philadelphia has no scarcity of chicken restaurants, ranging from Raising Cane’s to Dave’s Hot Chicken, Layne’s is distinctive enough in its own right to still be competitive in a crowded market. The restaurant marinates its chicken and prepares its sauces in-house. Wattar has no doubt about the company’s inevitable success in the region, saying “We believe in our product, and based on the results we saw in Pittsburgh and in Wisconsin and in Utah, we know it will work.”
Founded in 1994, Layne’s found success through a straightforward menu that keeps the chicken the star of the show. Guests can choose between “original” or “spicy” chicken finger meals, that come complete with crinkle cut fries, Texas Toast, a drink, and Layne’s signature sauce. The restaurant also offers a small selection of chicken sandwiches, and a grilled cheese option for vegetarian visitors.
