A local Jamaican food truck may soon open its first brick-and-mortar restaurant in Memphis’ Oakhaven neighborhood.

Gully’s Grill owner Shane Jones has filed a Certificate of Occupancy for Gully’s Jerk Hut at 5992 Knight Arnold Rd, formerly occupied by Hometown Pizza. The proposed 2,000-square-foot restaurant would seat 85 people and serve alcohol.

A native Jamaican, Jones told What Now Memphis that the project is still in its early stages and nothing is confirmed yet. He declined to provide further details.

However, based on the food truck offerings, the new eatery would serve classic Jamaican fare such as fried plantains, festival bread, and a variety of signature jerk chicken dishes including rasta pasta, tacos, quesadillas, and jerk soul plates with baked beans and mac and cheese.

Currently, Gully’s Grill operates out of its food truck at 3569 Hickory Hill Rd on Mondays, Thursdays, and Fridays. Stay tuned for updates on Gully’s Jerk Hut.
