On the heels of its first-ever U.S. location, which opened two years ago in Naperville, Australian-based brand Guzman y Gomez has plans to open an eatery in Schaumburg, the Daily Herald reports. The company, launched by two Brooklyn-natives who relocated to Australia, will build the restaurant on the former site of Brousko Authentic Greek Cuisine, whose building is slated to be demolished.
Schaumburg trustees approved plans for a 2,800 square foot restaurant to replace the 5,800 square foot building that currently stands at the southwest corner of Golf and Plum Grove roads. According to building plans, the restaurant itself will accommodate up to 50 diners, with outdoor dining space for 20 more. A 15-car drive-thru lane is also included in the design.
Founded in 2006 by Robert Hazan and Steven Marks, Guzman y Gomez serves up tacos, nachos, burritos, and more in over 150 stores throughout Australia. Fries and salads are also on the fast-casual’s menu, along with margaritas and beer at most of the brand’s locations.
The Daily Herald further reports the Schaumburg location is the first of five Guzman y Gomez expects to open in the U.S. this year; another five or six are planned for 2023.
At this time the construction and opening timelines for Schaumburg remain unclear. To learn more about the brand, find Guzman y Gomez online.
