Charleston is set to become even sweeter with the upcoming arrival of a new frozen custard shop.

Permits filed with the city, along with information from the eatery’s website, indicate that Whit’s Frozen Custard will soon open its doors at 1989 Maybank Hwy, Suite 102.

Previously unoccupied, the space is currently undergoing extensive renovations to create an updated and inviting ambiance. The revamped area will feature a retail section complemented by seating for up to nine guests.

Founded by husband-and-wife Lisa and Chuck Whitman in Granville, Ohio, in March 2003, Whit’s has blossomed into a beloved ice cream haven with over 70 locations spanning 10 states. South Carolina is currently home to two of these outlets.

At Whit’s, customers can indulge in a variety of classic frozen custard flavors served in cups or cones. All flavors can be made into shakes, known as ‘Whitsers,’ or customizable sundaes topped with small bites like nuts, candies, and fruits.

Additionally, grab-and-go quarts and pints are available, alongside a selection of classic food items including hot dogs, chili, and pulled pork barbecue. Many Whit’s stores serve vegan, gluten-free, and sugar-free friendly options.

Keep an out for updates on the grand opening date as this project progresses.

  • Hmmm. I have treated myself to Whit’s many times over the years when I visit Columbus, OH; my roots. Have hit Hilliard, Granville (doing the Rails to Tails Johnstown to Newark), as well as other locations in the region. Additionally, I was surprised to discover a Whit’s near my Dad’s house in Port St Lucie, FL a few years back and, have patronized it. Approximately 5 years ago, I said to myself, and my friend, and…..Whit’s that I thought this would do very well/be successful in Charleston, where I reside. Got their little brochure to check out a franchise opportunity. Was told that there were no franchise opportunities in my area — they are not interested in opening in my area. Interesting, cause it sure seemed like a great market to me. And now, apparently seems like a a great market to someone else. Oh, and plus Whit’s. Hmmm
