The newest addition near Nashville’s popular Broadway bar scene will be Black Market Bar and Grill, opening this spring in Printers Alley, a historic district with a rich history of live music and former printing presses for The Tennessean. Owners Elise Yarbrough, Rachael Moore and George Cowgill are behind the expansion.
Though an exact opening date has not yet been determined, Cowgill told What Now Nashville that timeline wise they are aiming open in late spring 2023.
Adding a unique aesthetic for alternative and punk-rock seekers in the oversaturated honky-tonk market, Black Market currently operates two locations in Birmingham, Alabama, and is sure to be a hit in Music City.
Cowgill spoke with What Now Nashville about the excitement around their third location and entering the Nashville market.
“I fell in love with Nashville years back, I’m a huge Preds fan & the growth of downtown in the last decade is jaw-dropping. And the history of Printers Alley? My god, Jimi Hendrix used to play in clubs on Printers,” Cowgill said.
According to its website, Black Market’s decor includes a mix of Southern history, local artists, horror movies, comic books, and punk rock.
“Our look and feel of comics, punk rock & horror posters have given us a face of our own in Birmingham for the last 15 years & I’m wildly confident that will appeal to the folks of Nashville as well. And my partners Elise Yarbrough and Rachael Moore are absolute beasts, real forces to be reckoned with,” Cowgill stated in an email.
Along with the decor and atmosphere, Black Market will have a robust food menu including burgers, wings, tacos, empanadas, and even a Sunday brunch menu. The bar and grill will have operating hours of 11 a.m.- 2 a.m. Tuesday through Sunday, and 3 p.m. – 2 a.m. every Monday.
Black Market is currently in the process of staffing its new location, as stated in an Instagram post.
