According to an article from Bridgetown Bites, Black Cat Frozen Custard aims to debut in the Old Town area at 133 SW 2nd Avenue #100.

“Our opening date is set to be on May 23rd. My business partner, Jared Bradley, and I love a theme, so I don’t think we could open up anything that doesn’t represent us in this way! Black Cat Frozen Custard will have a witchy/apothecary theme as we find frozen custard to be quite the magical experience,” co-owner Rebecca Vega told What Now Portland.

“We will have all the frozen custard classics available (sundaes, concretes, cones, etc.), along with coffee offerings as well! The other part of our business will be a speakeasy coffee lounge that you will enter through the custard shop. A secret place to conspire on your own or with friends all evening.”

“Conspirator’s Coffee Lounge will have a dark academia theme with bookshelves and cozy nooks to hide away in. You will also be able to order our frozen custard offerings while enjoying the coffee lounge. The hours for both businesses will be the same. Still debating on the exact hours, but we will likely be open until 11 pm or midnight every night (Except Tuesdays).”

“My business partner and I honestly have just been creating spaces that we want Portland to have because we want the product ourselves. The first thought about this new business actually happened the first summer we were open at our other business (2021). We also own the haunted mansion themed cocktail lounge, Raven’s Manor, together!”

“We were enjoying our one day “off” at Cathedral Park and I had a serious craving for some frozen custard. We are both from the Midwest and thought that it was readily available everywhere, so when I wasn’t able to find anything on Google Maps, I was really confused. I found a post on Reddit of someone who had been in almost the exact situation I was in at that moment, where they just wanted some good old frozen custard, but couldn’t find it in the area.”

“It became apparent that there was a scarcity of frozen custard in Portland (especially as we know it in the Midwest) which was quite disappointing, so we joked that that would be our next business venture. Then when things started to settle at Raven’s Manor, and we started to get some free time again, we decided to move forward with this new project!”

“The same thing with Conspirator’s Coffee Lounge–we were working nights downtown all the time, and couldn’t hardly find coffee when we needed it–at the hours past 6 pm. Everything closes so early from what we are used to back home, where there are coffee shops that are open until midnight.”

“We just kept saying how Portland needed more late night coffee shops, and the more we mentioned it to people, the more we realized we were not the only ones that were wanting more spots like this! We have seen a few other late night places open up even since we started on this project (almost 2 years ago now), so other business owners are thinking the same. We decided it would be cool and beneficial if we combined these two business concepts and made something unique to us!”
