Following the opening of Rosemont Market and Wine Bar, the team behind The Crunkleton is opening a new Mexican-inspired restaurant called Puerta in Elizabeth, located at 1961 E. 7th St.
The 1957 Hospitality Group recently opened the new multi-use concept in the area, which includes an all-day restaurant, neighborhood market, and wine bar. Now the team is focusing its attention across the street, where the new Puerta will feature food and drinks inspired by Oaxaca in southern Mexico, according to Axios. The new restaurant will move into the former home of The Stanley, which closed a year ago. Co-owner Gary Crunkleton is hoping to open Puerta in Winter 2023. The group is also working on opening a new Crunkleton in Raleigh.
This will be the group’s fourth restaurant concept, on top of Cheat’s Cheesesteak Parlor. When these restaurants open, it will nearly double the number of restaurants the group had at the beginning of the year. Like its other concepts, Puerta will offer top-tier service matched with high-quality meals made with only the best ingredients. This will be the brand’s first Mexican concept, with tequila being a focal point on the drinking menu.
“I wish I knew more details, but the food and drink scene down there is so exciting and fun that it is hard for me to be more specific,” Crunkleton tells Axios. “I can say that the ingredients used for the food and drink will be of the highest quality and authenticity. Frankly, I wouldn’t have it any other way.”
