Buc-ee’s is planned for a 32-acre site in Mebane at 1425 Trollingwood-Hawfields Road, where approved plans call for a large travel center with 650 parking spaces and 120 fuel pumps, CBS17 reported. The company has not announced a specific opening date but is targeting the final quarter of 2027.
The Mebane project has been in the works for several years. Mebane City Council unanimously approved the Buc-ee’s proposal in 2024 following considerable debate in the community, including opposition from environmental justice group 7 Directions of Service, CBS17 reported.
The timeline has shifted since the project was initially announced. Buc-ee’s said in 2025 that it was targeting an opening in late 2026 or early 2027. The company is now aiming for the fourth quarter of 2027, according to the latest update from CBS17.
Buc-ee’s, which was founded in 1982, operates large-format travel centers known for extensive fuel facilities, food offerings and its signature clean restrooms, according to the company’s website. The Mebane location will mark the brand’s first entry into North Carolina.
The company has also indicated that it expects to pursue additional locations in the state, although specific future sites have not been announced.
